In Memorium – Mike Hughes 1941-2011

Sadly my father, Mike Hughes of Wythall T’ai Chi passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning, 19th May 2011. Michael loved his t’ai chi and the many friends he has made. If you wish to pass on your condolences please contact me, Alex, at alex.hughes@alexhughescartoons.co.uk and I’ll let you know details of the funeral arrangements, or you can leave a comment below.

UPDATE

Mike’s funeral service will be held at Robin Hood Cemetery and Crematorium, Streetsbrook Road, Shirley, Solihull, B90 3NL on Friday 27th May at 3.30pm. (map) Family flowers only. Donations to the Woodland Trust or the British Heart Foundation are welcomed via Thomas Bragg and Sons Ltd. All of Mike’s friends are welcome to join us at the reception to be held following the service at Wythall House and Park, 52 Silver Street,Wythall, Birmingham B47 6LZ (map).

I’m sorry to hear about your loss he will be greatly missed by all of us.
He was always full of life and fun and has been a great support to me personally over the years.
I will miss him and his smile, his warmth and his laughter.

Mike was my student for fifteen years, he was a respected member of the senior council of teachers and his wise counsel and sense of humour will be sadly missed. Our condolences go out to his wife Gay and son Alex and all of his family and friends at T’ai Chi.

Mike was a great character and friend – I so enjoyed our chats whether it was about Tai Chi, canals or his love of archery. My condolences to you and your family. He was such a lovely person – I will miss him.

Mike was a very good friend and colleague, who’s support was second to none He enjoyed his training in the arts and i will miss his spirit and character alot.

My sympathies go out to Mike’s wife and his family. I knew Mike through Tai Chi where he was a generous teacher. I shall miss his large spirit and his smile.

A man with a heart of gold, when you partnered up with Mike you always felt he’d made it his unstinting mission to help you along with the best counsel he was able.

My sympathy goes out to Mike’s wife and family,he will be sadly missed by family and friends. He was always ready with his helpful advice and adapted his teaching to whatever level he was working with.He gave you confidence. With his friendly smile, and looks,to me he was Father Christmas. He will always, in my thoughts, be Father Christmas.

To Mike’s family and friends please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. He was one of the most generous individuals I’ve had the pleasure to train with. I always knew I was going to have a enjoyable and fruitful time whether simply having a chat over cup of tea or practicing T’ai Chi.

…the day brightens to crystal clear..we search the beaches for driftwood and pebbles, scour the horizon for elusive islands and pirate ships..the life and work of Barbara Hepworth is celebrated on TV and later we walk the quay as the little boats of Solva harbour are floated on the high tide…
How lovely that happy memories of a recent holiday should evoke your presence Mike- Thank you Mr Hughes for always brightening our days!
