As you may have seen in my previous post, last year I got married to Maria on a steam train. Well, not exactly… we actually got married at Kidderminster Register Office, but we went for a steampunk theme for the whole day, and, fittingly, booked a steam train for the wedding breakfast. Now, read on for part two… (more…)

One year ago today, I married my lovely wife Maria in Kidderminster. I’d proposed a year earlier, whilst on holiday in Prague, and we started planning and plotting the big day at the beginning of the year. To mark our first Anniversary, I thought I’d post some photos and memories of the day. This is the first of two posts – the second should go out later in the week.
Keen observers of my website (both of you) will have noticed I’ve not been updating this blog particularly frequently recently. This has been in part due to work being a bit busier than usual as my other venture, drawnalism (a joint project with fellow cartoonist Matt ‘Hack’ Buck), goes from strength to strength; partly due to my recent wedding to the lovely Maria (read all about her new business over at mazzawoo.com); but mostly due me being a bit feckless. It was an warm and sunny day back in May at the Victoria for another Dr Sketchy’s, which was appropriate for the theme was ‘Spring Has Sprung’. The smaller-than-usual crowd (undoubtedly due to the unseasonably – for this year at least – good weather) were treated to a blooming good show of vernal delights, starting with a song and a pose from our host Liberty Pink in a emerald dress adorned with flowers. She was followed by Shirley Windmill (no, not that Shirley Windmill) and her massive marrow, the subject her first song, the old music hall classic ‘The Marrow Song (Oh, What a Beauty)’. She followed this with ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ prior to posing in rosettes along with the aforementioned large squash.
…and in a puff of smoke, Shrewsbury International Cartoon Festival 2010 appears! Starting today and running until Sunday the Festival enters it’s seventh year with the theme of Magic, Myth and Mystery. Like last year I’ll be there alongside Matt Buck (Twitter) and Royston Robertson (Twitter) reporting on all the cartooning fun for Bloghorn, the blog of the Professional Cartoonists’ Organisation. As previously mentioned, last weekend was Shrewsbury International Cartoon Festival, and what an event it was! Luckily, the predicted storms failed to materialise (aside from a brief shower early on Saturday morning), and the sun shone throughout. Myself, Matt Buck and Royston Robertson were there to blog and twitter for thebloghorn.org, the blog of the Professional Cartoonists’ Organisation.
It’s that time of year again… cartoonists from all over the country (and the world) will be converging in Shropshire next week for the Shrewsbury International Cartoon Festival. Despite my small triumph last year when I sold a cartoon – The Kiss – in one of the exhibitions, I’m not on the ‘official’ list. I will be busy though, as, along with Matt Buck and Royston Robertson, I’ll be blogging for Bloghorn, the blog of the Professional Cartoonists’ Organisation. Highlights include exhibitions by Steve Bell from the Guardian, Kate Charlesworth from New Scientist and a collection of science cartoons curated by Professor Colin Pillinger (of Mars explorer Beagle 2 fame), all in keeping with this year’s theme of Science – in tribute to the 200th anniversary of the birth of local boy Charles Darwin.
