Still life at Bodies Revealed

Another late one, but back at the end of October I went along to the press launch of the Bodies Revealed exhibition at the Custard Factory in Birmingham. This show, taking it’s lead from (but not connected with) the Body Worlds exhibitions of Dr Gunther von Hagens, features chemically preserved corpses which have been partially dissected to reveal muscle, organs, bone and tissue for educational study.

The exhibition was not without controversy, particularly with doubts expressed as to the origins of some of the bodies. It’s certainly not for everyone, but speaking as an artist, I found it a fascinating exhibition offering an invaluable insight into what happens ‘under the skin’, and took the opportunity to do a little, er, very still life drawing. Fellow Brum Blogger and photographer Karen Strunks was also there, and snapped a few pics for her blog too. The show has ended now (yes, I was a bit slow in blogging this one), but you can still see my impressions below.

Furniture and Equipment Clearance

In the next week or so, I will be saying farewell to the Custard Factory, which has been the home for my cartoon studio for the last four years (of which more in a future post). Due to my new studio space being somewhat smaller I am looking to dispose of some of my old office furniture and equipment, some of which I’ve had for many years, but, sadly now no longer have use for.

Grant enlarger (a lovely bit of old-school design kit)

fridge [SOLD]

Update:
The sofa has been claimed, and I’ve had enquiries about the desks, filing cabinet, and draftsman’s chair. The drawing board, Grant enlarger, office chair, fridge and radiator very much still available.

Another update:
Fridge has now also been sold. Only two days left!

Bus Accident at the Custard Factory

Following on from the train derailment the other week it appears that the Custard Factory is becoming a bit of a Bermuda Triangle for public transport. Coming into work today, I saw the aftermath of this single-decker bus colliding with a row of raillings outside the Old Crown, just round the corner from the Factory.

At this point I’m unaware of if anyone was hurt – hope not. Looks like the bus must have been going at a bit of a rate to tear up that much railling though.
